Advice on when to appy for VISA

Hi all,

I'm new to this so bear with me for some very basic questions. My wife and I are looking to get PR in Canada. We are both in our mid-20's, I have a degree in Medical Electronics & my wife is in her final year at uni to become a registered nurse.

As my wife's occupation will be on 'THE' required job list am I right in thinking her application will be processed quicker than mine? The reason I am asking is that she will need a years experience before she can apply, so will be able to apply around Sept 2011, whereas I already have 4 years experience so could apply now if my application will take a lot longer than hers.

I have slight reservations havin read a thread on another forum/discussion from people already living in Canada saying that a large proportion of skilled/qualified people end up in low pay jobs and are basically at the bottom of the food chain. It seemed (although I hate to type this) that it was aimed more at non-whites or will this possibly apply to everyone?

Any help/info will be great!
