Default Teaching query

Hi there, wondering if there are an Uk expats working in schools in Canada, I'm sure there are
I'm a Nursery Nurse( as in a qualified Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten Teacher),which means I am qualified in the care and teaching of children from infant to the age 7.
I realise that I cannot teach children entering thier Elemetary years, but can be an assistant. I can however run a Pre Kg establishment.

Sorry a rather long winded way of asking, how did you find the transition from working in the Uk to Canada and did you need to transfer your qualifications?
I have looked into this but the qualifications for EYP is pretty much along the same lines as the Canadian system.

Any advise/ info/personal experiences really welcome

Hello

There is no national qualification scheme/régime for Canada and education is wholly a provincial area of jurisdiction. So the answers will depend on the province to which you wish to move. Believe it or not every time a teacher moves to another province or territory they often need a new licence!

BC has processes in place for licended primary and secondary teachers to become licenced here. I'm not sure if ECE is included or not. Is yours either an undergraduate degree or a post-bachelors certificate? Some ECE (early childhood educators) in BC hold 2 year diplomas rather than university degrees.

Thanks for the info, mine is a diploma that is now part of the undergraduate degree, and I'm working up to my degree, but need to be employed if I want to continue.
I'm in Alberta, so I think I'll just apply and see where my application takes me.
I heard about the different licensing for each Province, seems a little crazy, but hey no.

Check out the websites for the faculties of education at the University of Alberta (Edmonton) or University of Calgary. They will probably either have the licencing info or a link for overseas credentialed educators.
