hello, first time on here so please be gentle(forum virgin),i have a partner who is nearly five years post breast cancer, two children aged 7 and 10 and would like to get out of this country and move to spain but would like to know whether life is any different in spain to live rather than a just a holiday,i am an electrician here in england and wondered if there would be work for me in spain or are things alot different, basically a blank canvas at the moment and i just dont want my kids brought up in a country were the goverment tax you to the hilt, thugs dont get punished because the law is an ass and you are frightened to go to the shops at night for being mugged, any response whatsoever and i would be very grateful, just trying to research as much as i can and respect the views of familys who have made the move allready, cheers guys, mike.

Hi Cheeky, welcome to forum - your new addition! (Really, you can't post just one.)

Have you tried looking at the job market in Spain? Must be something online.

Are the taxes much better in Spain than the UK? Isn't Spain a Socialist country?

Kyle - puh-lease! No, Spain is not a Socialist Country - are you confusing it with Cuba?
I don't know that Spain is any better with regards to government or crime punishment - best posting this question on the expats living in Spain forum. one thing is for sure - they have nicer weather!

Or NZ or Australia, if you have trade papers as a sparkie they will probably rip your hand off in either place. If you want warm go oz or north island NZ if you dont mind being cold join us in the south island! Good luck wherever you choose.

Definitely try my country (Australia) - am sure they need more sparkies!! Much more outdoor lifestyle to bring kids up in if that is what you are after - and petty crime is dealt with pretty swiftly - you'll even cop a fine if you litter!

Its a new world in Spain a bit like England was in the 70s but with the Sunshine and clear seas , and under 2 hours away for them family visits

Cheaper on everything i have seen so far , slower pace of day which is brilliant ...

At my Mallorca home last weekend at 9pm i popped along to the Small Harbour had a 3 course meal overlooking the Marina watched some kids about 14 ish fishing of the wall , whilst the last small fishing boats came in , t shirts on as it was 23 degrees still .. cost of meal was 40 euros includes drinks as well and 3 courses . approx £ 28 ...

the kids fished happily then went home, now in UK no doubt they would of been smashing some phone booth or something !! Different world ...

Oh also Parking was free !! and after the meal a romantic walk along the moonlit sea front before getting back to the Villa ..

Cant beat it ..
