Hmmm...I have mixed feelings about this one here. A minimum pay requirement is good in principle for weeding out unskilled professions, but what is with this bit here?:

"...It has now recommended a simple pay threshold be used to decide eligibility for automatic settlement..."

I think a minimum salary should be one of the numerous components considered, not the only component in an immigration application, and certainly should not be automatically rubber-stamped.

I believe also that Romanians and Bulgarians have to wait at least another three years until they can come to the UK, so hopefully the labour market will be able to recover a bit before this can occur.

Lastly, I find the bit about sports stars being subject to the same pay requirements laughable, seeing as many of them seem make the required annual amount about 3 times over per week...
