Default Name change new passport.

Hello I'm a us citizen with an settlement visa, with a passport thats about to expire. I'm in the UK, how do I go about getting a new passport while in UK? Also I would like to change it to my new last name will this be an issue? (I changed my name legally but didn't change my passport because I was afraid I had to pay for another settlement visa.) thanks for your help!

All the information is on US embassy site under US citizen services: Passport Services | Embassy of the United States London, UK
To put your new name in the passport, just enclose your marriage certificate as proof. Name Change by Marriage or Court Order | Embassy of the United States London, UK

You will need to carry both passports when travelling in and out of UK. For a price (£216 by post or £648 in person), UKBA will transfer your settlement endorsement to your new passport.

thanks! one more question.. if i change my name with the new passport and decide not to transfer my visa into the new one, immigration officers will not question the fact that my visa and now expired passport does not match my current new passport?

No it doesn't matter. Some people carry their marriage certificate as extra proof, which may not be a bad idea. Or pay hefty fees for transfer of visa.

Very hefty. I recall my wife saying they wanted £500 to transfer her ILR to her new passport. She just carries the old and new passports instead.
