We're applying for a spouse visa. I'm waiting for my husband's documents to reach me from the US. Once they get here I need to photocopy everything and then send it off to Sheffield.
The instructions say they should be received by Sheffield within two weeks of his biometric appointment which would make it this Friday. But obviously it's Easter with bank holidays on Friday & Monday so I'm hoping we have until next Tuesday. It looks like we're going to need it.
His package was meant to arrive by today. No sign of it yet. With me working most days (have today off) I'll usually only be able to collect it from the sorting office after work on the day after it arrives, so Wednesday if it's delivered on Tuesday for example. Meaning I can photocopy it at work on Thursday and post on Saturday, meeting the Tuesday deadline. That's if it arrives tomorrow.
Does anyone know how strict this 2 week deadline is? Are they likely to mind if it turns up a couple of days late?
Hi. I was in much the same situation. Royal Mail promised me 5-7 days delivery on sending my documents to New York. It took 2 weeks for them to arrive. Other half did his biometrics on march 2nd. The documents finally got to Sheffield on March 20th. We've had email saying that documents are being prepared for consideration ..... So I'm assuming that they were ok with them being slight late.
I also never photocopied ...
I mean HE never photocopied. He just packaged them up and sent them off. I think the official statement says "supporting documents must be posted to us within 14 days" HE used this phrase a lot when I was panicking lol. "Posted and not received" .,..
Anyway if you have a look through the posts, there's lots of stories of peoples documents being stuck in snow, and stuck in customs etc. and it all seems to have turned out well.
Good luck with the application
They seem to be a little flexible about receiving documents in 14 days from the biometrics appointment so a couple of days should be fine.
We recommend that you have all your documents on hand before you schedule your biometrics. We also recommend that you use a commercial carrier like FedEx, UPS or DHL to send important documents internationally so that you can track the package. Royal Mail is not trackable once it leaves the UK at least not in real time.
Thanks Waysey/Nyclon. I hope so. It would be rubbish for the application to fail on this!
Nyclon - we did have everything in place. Well, in two places. I'm sending the docs to Sheffield from within the UK but as we need to include his stamped biometrics receipt my husband couldn't post his docs from the US to me until after his appointment. And I did remind him to send it trackable but, well... *sighs* *rolls eyes*
Some Lovely staff at UPS helped so much. The package has been in UPS in Brooklyn for the last 5 hours .... So we are just waiting patiently on delivery ... And the decision. * got everything crossed*
He's missed the delivery D: D: ...
UPS office first thing for him!!!!!
