Default Tax situation: UK in UK, working for Chinese co before relocating to China

I am being offered a job working for a Chinese company (employment contract to be signed in China, under Chinese law) but starting to work for them in the UK (in FY 2010/11) based out of the offices of a UK offshoot before relocating with the family (in FY 2011/12) to corporate HQ in China for 2yrs+. I am a UK citizen and have been resident here since birth. I have a house in the UK that we would want to rent out whilst abroad.
I'm daunted by the hmrc web site and documents, etc. I want to understand both how I pay tax in FY 2010/11 when I start working for them, and whether I will get hit for UK tax as well as the local Chinese taxes once we relocate to China (at least for the first tax year?)
All help welcome

AFAIK, there is no tax treaty between the UK and China.
Which means you'll be subjected to the tax whims of both countries.

I'd suggest getting a professional to help you sort out what to pay where and when.

Default tax seems Ok, but Social Security/NI a big Q

Thanks. HMRC have told me that once I leave the UK (as long as it is < 183 days into the tax year, then I am not liable for UK income tax), but that it is unclear about National Insurance contributions

You are not liable for NI contributions however you can still pay a voluntary contribution which keeps your "stamp" total up.

Thanks. HMRC site seems to indicate that you may have to pay employees Class 1 NIC for first 52 weeks that you are away before you can switch to voluntary contributions - it depends on the level of residency that they determine and what they think your likelihood of returning is, plus any connection between old and new employer
