Question international shipping

Hi everybody. I sure could use some help.

I'm from the US, living here permanently, but still for the time being, using a US pharmacy to obtain a few prescriptions. They'll fill those prescriptions but won't ship them. I've asked a friend to do it and she is quite concerned that it's illegal to ship these kinds of things here. I've tried to find the answer on the USPS's website but am having no luck.

Anybody know the answer? Any help I get would be greatly appreciated!

Caroline

I'm not sure the USPS is the best authority on the legality of this. It's often the local authorities with problems about admitting prescription drugs into the country. Apparently there is a rule within the EU that allows you to ship anything that is legally obtainable within the EU to another country in the EU. But some countries (Germany is the one I'm familiar with) have rules that require that all medications coming from outside the country can only be shipped to a pharmacy - and then dispense the meds to whoever they were intended for.

I'd be surprised if you can't get most of your prescriptions in the UK through your doctor there. And, if you're covered by the NHS or private insurance, chances are they'll be somewhat cheaper than what you're paying in the US. An excellent excuse to go sign on with a doctor in the UK.
Cheers,
Bev

When moving to Italy last year my husband had to carry 3 months supply of medication, some of which were 'controlled' drugs prescribed under strict home office rules, however, he needed them to cover him till he was able to see his doctor in italy. With the medication I carried a letter from my gp, you could ask your gp to do the same(whatever the meds are) and you can contact the home office here in the uk for guidance, if you do not want to do that I would wonder why, and what you wanted to import here, but try the hom e office etc., they are very helpful.
