Red face Advice needed on location/salary/weather/nightlife/beachlife

HI ALL,
I found this forum to be very active and impressed with people giving advices/suggestions. I too wanted some suggestions for my trip to UK.
I would be travelling to UK for a duration of 4 months from August2008. Im a IT Professional and would be working in middlesex. So can you people suggests something on these things:
1. Which place would be more economical for stay. I dont mind travelling for about 30 to 45 mins to office.
2. What would be the weather during this time frame?
3. For professionals, is there any minimum cutoff for salaries(like some other countries have)?
4. Im a Indian by origin and i wish to socialize with people there so that thinking of having a decent nightlife and how difficult it is or how easy it is?
5. I love beaches, so how are the beaches there in UK. Will i have to travel long for good beaches? And also need to think about the weather during that time period.

Appreciate all your advice/suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Luv,
Rotney.

Hi and welcome to the forum

The weather is difficult to answer. Although it is supposedly mid-summer anything goes. Last July and August it rained all the whole time. During the same period in 2006 the weather was fantastic.

With regard to where to stay, Middlesex is a very large county - where is your job based? People will be able to help you, once they know this.

You say minimum cut-off - do you mean maximum cut-off?

Many areas of Middlesex are considered suburbs of London and means that you will be able to get into London fairly easily using the London Underground system which extends to areas such as Stanmore and Edgware. Therefore all the nightlife is within reach, but I am sure that once you say where you will be working, people will be able to give you more advice on what local nightlife there is.

England is not renown for having great beaches and the sea is usually rather cold. I think the nearest beach for you would be Brighton, but there is no sand only stones.

I hope this helps a bit and I am sure more people will pop in to give you some more answers.

Regards

Michelle

Thanks for the reply Michelle.
My workplace would be in Stockley Park,Middlesex UB11.
I mentioned as Minimum Cut off only.
And i got my salary info from my employer it would be 40,000GBP/Annum. How does my salary look? Will i be able to manage any savings with this amount. And i dont need a great place to live. Just a normal clean cheap hotel would do.Which would be the best place to stay?
It seems like theres no beachlife as such. Thats ok.
Anymore inputs on nightlife?

Once again thanks for the reply.

Hi Rotney,

I worked at Stockley Park for quite a while some years ago with GSK. When the freight trains went by some of the floors used to shake Here is a travel planner for it Buzz @ Stockley. It wasn't that easy to get for me since I lived just North of London so I used to drive in, but I always avoided the rush hour since the motorways around there were awful. Check with the company you are working for since they may have transport from the local trains or buses to the park.

I actually saw your post because as Michelle says the UK is not known for it's good beaches! I can't help with the night life either....

Regards,
Karen

Your salary looks OK, as if you will be able to save, well, how long is a piece of string? If you rent a room in a not so god neighborhood you will save lots of money, if you rent a 1 room flat in Notting Hill you will have nothing left. The choice is yours

Google for Time Out magazine, they have all the information you need about nightlife in London.

Can't really help you with anything else, but as for beachlife.....if you want beautiful sandy beaches then travel to Bournemouth in Dorset. My hubby is from there and the beaches are gorgeous! We were just on the beach there this past Saturday. Though this may be a little far from you...Devon and Cornwall have some really nice beaches as well. Torbay here in Devon is known as the "English Riviera." There is a lot of surfing, and other things.
