health insurance for over sixties

Hi, I'm Sheila and my husband and I are moving to France later this year. Does anyone know how much health insurance we will need to top up what we will be entitled to due to our age.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

Not sure if you might get a better response posting this question in the France part of the forum. But unless you are moving to France to work (and thus contribute to the French social security system) you will probably only be entitled to health insurance from the UK national health system. I'm not real familiar with that system, but I've heard it only covers you for a couple months after your departure from the UK.

There is a system in France to assure that people who are destitute get national health coverage, but it's unlikely you can qualify for that until after you have established residence in France. Most retirees I know of who haven't worked in France carry some sort of expat coverage. Those who move to France from outside the EU must show that they have coverage before they can be granted a visa.

If either or you will be working in France, you are automatically signed up for the French social security by your employer - and most employers offer some form of mutuelle (top up insurance) for which they split the cost with the employee.
