Default Expats in the UK

Hi everyone!!

Just stumbled across this section of Expats.com. I was very interested to read comments from Expats in the UK. I'm British but have lived in Spain just over 4 years so can appreciate the concerns, worries and anxieties when moving to another country.

Out of curiosity, how do you all find the UK? Personally, I could wait to escape the politics and terrible weather!! But its always interesting to read the views of non UK nationals.

We left the UK almost 18 months ago and haven't looked back. Here in Argentina the people are under the impression that the UK is paradise and the streets are paved in gold. Argentine people always say that there is a lot of security in the UK and the streets are very clean. All they ever see on TV is all the police surrounding Buckingham Palace and Downing Street and of course no rubbish in the streets surrounding these two big tourist areas. As any UK resident knows, this is totally not the case anywhere else.

As the saying goes, the grass is greener...........

Regards

Michelle

You really want to hear from foreign ex pats living in the UK, but from the other perspective I still really love the country. Its easy to knock the place, but when you move to another country there are always pitfalls there as well ..... you should know Pasanada, you moved to Spain

I didn't move to Spain to get away from problems in the UK, I moved here for the benefits I perceived of living in Spain

Interesting that only Brits have replied!! ha ha!

Stravinsky, yep, there are pitfalls in Spain and its definitely not paradise, however, I've enjoyed life here so far and now consider Spain to be my home. As someone who has travelled about with the British Army, I find I don't have any major problems settling anywhere so I count myself as very fortunate. But I will add I'm grateful to the UK for giving me the opportunites and financial means to be able to purchase a home abroad.

As the saying goes, Spain will be lovely..........when its finished!! Lol

Stavinsky, you must visit the Djemma el Fna market in Marrakesh - its a total assault on all senses....in a positive sense! I loved the place when I visited in January.

Mona, good luck with your move to Italy.
