Return ticket

Hi all

I just got a 6 month visa to the UK. I plan on getting married and staying there. I am trying to save money and I"m wondering if I need to get a return ticket or will a one way be ok. I've tried to find the answer and the best I can come up with is that I need to show that I would be able to purchase one if needed. Any help will be much appreciated

I don't quite get what you are suggesting.

If you have the right kind of visa your plane ticket should not concern you.

If you have a visa that does not allow you to get married and stay in the UK frankly you will not get advice here about how to break UK law.

So it would be helpful if you can clarify what exactly is your situation.

As a US citizen, to get married in UK (to someone settled in UK or a British/EU citizen) and live there requires a fiance visa. It's valid for 6 months during which you must be married and then apply for a marriage leave to remain (spouse) valid for 2 years.
If you already have your fiance visa, you don't need a return ticket as you'll be staying on in UK after your wedding. If all you have is a visitor visa (and if you are a US national, you don't need one), it doesn't entitle you to get married in UK, let alone stay on afterwards. If you try to do that, a register office will refuse to accept your application for wedding and your application to stay on will be refused.
So please tell us your exact circumstances, what kind of visa you have or are applying for and what your intentions are.

I should have been more clear and for that I do apoligize. The visa is for marriage. I would never ask for advice to break a law. I think the answer to my question is in the reply below. Thanks

This is exactly what I did. If you do exactly this you do not need a return ticket and will not be hassled at customs for not having one.
