Unhappy what an unfair way of employment

I have been in the UK for 8 weeks now. Had a very good job in my country but relocated because my spouse wanted I and the kids to be with him.

Employers and Recruiting Agencies are excited whenever they view my CV but when they ask why I left my last job and I tell them, they turns cold and will not want to speak further. Some will grumbling tell me so I don't have a UK experience. This is very frustrating and considering that I have worked with one of the Fortune 500 companies should be enough for them to know that I must have developed experience with multi nationals.

Either dont tell em why you left your last job or accept the fact that there are possibly a fair few other applicants who, for whatever reason, employers feel are better suited??

Dont give up and keep trying, 8 weeks is no time at all for job hunting, especially in this economic climate!

I dont know of any, but I would suggest you find a "Citizens Advice Bureau", (theres bound to be at least one in your local town) who will help you, not only with looking for voluntary work, but may help you with finding employment???? Maybe another route for you would be to forget whatever qualifications you may have and be prepared to take any job temporarily, just to get you into the system???

Hi

What you have to remember is that the UK is at the bottom of a recession. Although there are now signs of recovery. Companies are inundated with applicants for every Job. Whilst the market is saturated they look for any excuse to filter out candidates. As recovery gains momentum this will change very quickly.

the sad fact is that there are a lot of very highly qualified people collecting trollys in super market carparks at the moment.

It is not fair i agree but its the way of things.

Walk along your local high street it will be full of charity shops, I bet you will find at least one that will be glad of your help. It is a start until things pick up.

There was a TV report recently when a company in Boston, Lincolnshire (not a hotbed of unemployment, rather a smart market town) advertised for four warehouse operatives, 500 people applied, including a former sales manager of an Audi dealership.
Firms are just not recruiting, many are making people redundant and downsizing, and people without jobs have to be prepared to take any jobs going, just to keep a roof over their heads.
Tough, yes, but that's the reality I'm afraid.

What is your profession?

I worked here in London with a Fortune 100 company until I was made redundant and have not found a job after 4 months of trying. I think I'll stop looking and start my own consultancy business, perhaps you could try something similar, at the very least that would keep you busy, and thenyou can continue to apply for jobs and show you actually have UK experience :-)
