People here are very helpful, but your question is vague beyond hopelessness.

Be specific about your questions and you will get very good advice.

Mmm....To clarify.I live in North West Northern Ireland am 33 years old, married with 3 children all under 13 yrs old.

I have my own buisness and estate agency & letting agency and my wife is a fully qualified beauty therapist.

We are seriously considering relocating to experience a new place with new challenges and for a fresh start.

I would welcome anyone in the uk,in particular England & Scotland who have either made a similar move and could offer advice, recommend a area.

I am seeking employment also as i do not wish to start my own busienss in a new area.

I hope this clarifies things for you.

Regards

Gary

Hi Gary
Well - thats a pretty tall order! You may have to break this down into smaller chunks and research it all over a period time. At the moment its going to be very difficult for someone to give you a reply that covers everything! Other people may well have moved from Ireland to the UK, Canada, USA or wherever .... but they arent going to be able to pop in and tell you where to live - thats all a personal choice for everyone. Also you say you are looking for employment - which is going to be extremely difficult for anyone in the current climate.

Perhaps you need to draw up a list with your wife on what you are looking for out of life, what you as a family wish for - and what you can realistically hope to achieve. That may help you research more specific areas / Countries - and then you will need to narrow that down to towns / cities.

At some point in all this you need to research the employment issue. Im sure you are aware that the property market is in pretty dire straits everywhere, so your current profession may prove a difficult on to stay in if you move from where you are now. If you are considering changing employment altogether ... then again only you can decide what that will be, based on your knowledge, qualifications and interests.

Im sure its early days .... but do take your time and think long and hard about what it is you want ..... emigrating has always had its downsides as well as its upsides! and at the moment the downsides are extremely importany to consider!

Sue

We are clear what we want...a new frsh challenge.
Your right.;lots to consider.I thought it a fairly basic request to invite feedback from anyone who has made a similar move.
Sales in the property market are dire, rental side of things is quite buyoant.I am a firm believer that if you really want to work, their are jobs out their.
The economic situation here in Northern Ireland isnt great but their are still opportunities out their.
The reason my options are open and varied is that we are very flexible and with some positive feedback we would investigate this opportunity for ourselves.
For example im aware that Cambridge in England,is a very good area to live, crime is low and quality of housing is good,so my cv is going off to letting agents and estate agents alike.
On the foreign move,i have found out that South Austrailia,in particular Adelaide have a high demand for Beauty therapists which my wife is fully qualified to do.A visa to here is achievable.

Basically i believ if we want this enough it can happen,we have to make it happen, through networking and exploring all avenues.

Im a very driven person generally an we are a relatively young married couple, ready for a new life experience/challenge.

The very worst that can happen is that we make the move,it doesnt work out and we come home again. Not the worst of scenarios.

Were do you live yourself?

Hiya ... well I admire your drive! and your self belief that you can make it happen so I wish you all the very best !

I live on the Costa del Sol (Estepona), and have been here for 5 years now - and its tough!!! very tough!! despite a huge amount of research and visits etc - when you actually start to live in another Country and experience another Culture its very very different.

I think its best described as 3 stages ...... 1st stage - Excitement, euphoria of having done the move! you enjoy all the newness of it all.

2nd stage ..... Realising you still have exactly the same things you need to do - washing, ironing, working, cooking, cleaning, paying bills, fixing the plumbing, trying to get a workman round, traffic jams, tax returns etc etc etc (only its hotter !!).... and it makes you wonder if you did the right thing ! lol

3rd stage .... Accepting you made the right choice and just living it / Panic and wonder what you have done and go back "home".

At the end of the day although its useful and valuable to have other people tell you their experiences - they are all going to be different. We have quite a few friends here now and every single one of them has a different opinion or view on the different aspects of their lives here - or what they feel they are now missing from "home" - and even if they would do it all again the same way or different.

Its not always possible I know - but I do genuinely believe that you need to visit some of the places you are considering moving to .... it helps to get a better feel for a place

Best of luck

Sue

Hi
Thanks for that.I know its a terribly complex decision.

One thing we are sure of is that we are ready for a new challenge,i guess i justn have to keep enquiring, investigating etc etc.

Would you recommend your area, whats it like for young families, etc?

thanks

Gary
