Default Money!

Hello,

I was wondering: would, say, 45,000 pounds a year before taxes be enough for a family of three to live well in southern England, say in Bournemouth or Poole?

I´d say that would be about enough to live on, Bournemouth and that part of the UK is fairly expensive but 45K should give you a reasonable life style and its a nice place to live

Depends on what the tax situation is and what sort of housing, area etc.. but not too many luxuries, but not on the bread line either. As I´ve said, Bournemouth, Poole are affluent areas and fairly pricey, but its lovely there, nice beaches and on the edge of the New forest... hence its expensive to live there. If you move further east, say, Southampton, Worthing, Brighton, it gets cheaper. I used to live in Worthing and 45K would be a fairly comfortable wage for a family of three!!!!

I love chichester, If we hadnt moved to Spain thats where I wanted to go. Its not too bad cost wise, do a search on properties there. There are some beautiful villages in the surrounding areas. Not as dear as Bournmouth, not as cheap as Worthing (my hometown lol)

I would recommend Chichester

Great! Thanks for your reply. It looks charming and full of character. We have a 3-year-old daughter, too, and the schools look pretty good.

Another area we're looking at is the Isle of Wight, but that's a whole different thing altogether. Property seems affordable there, but the cost of living might be high.

I know nothing about the Isle of wight, but Chichester is good, not too expensive, but not too cheap!! I´d be happy bringing my children up there. In fact, altho we have a UK house in Worthing, my husband has his business in southampton, so should the credit crunch ever end, we will sell the Worthing house and buy in Chicester, or one of the villages, Lavant is my sons favourite cos its near Goodw ood, home of the horse racing and classic car festivals !!
