Default Newbie here. Moving to UK from US

Hi all! I just want to introduce myself. I am a 33 year old mom of a 2 year old boy and wife of a Brit. We have been living in the US and will soon be moving to England. (I've never even been there.) I am really looking forward to getting to know some of you here. I'm sure I will be reaching out for support, as this move has got me both excited and terrified! LOL!

Dear Lord, I'm going to have to learn the Metric system! LOL!!!!

Happy Holidays to all.

J

Where are you moving from in the states? Where are you moving to in the UK? You will need to file for your right to remain once you move the the UK. But that will not be a problem since you are married to a Brit. I went through it all and survived. We lived in the UK for 5 years and have now moved to the Costa del Sol Spain. But we do go back for visits a few time a year.

Hi, there! I am also from the US (by way of West Virginia), married to a Brit, and living in England with our 2 1/2 year old daughter. We live in South Devon, but will be making a move to London soon. Hubby is in the Royal Marines and just took a position switch to there. He's originally from Bournemouth in Dorset.

Have you gotten your spousal visa and such in order? If you don't, I would be happy to help if you have any problems. It's pretty straight forward and fairly easy. Well, anyway welcome to EF!

Errrr yes and no. Some things are still in the Imperial system or in both so it's not usually just metric so that shouldn't be too bad.

I moved from the UK to Australia in July 2007 and everything here really is metric. I went to the GP I could only tell her my height and weight in Imperial measures and not metric!

Regards,
Karen

Thanks for the welcome everyone. We currently live in South Carolina and will more than likely be moving to the Kent area, since that is where he's from. But we aren't really locked into any area. We'll decide where to lay our roots depending on where he gets a job. He is a firefighter. 14 years with the British Fire Brigade and 6 years in the American fire service.

You buy soft drinks by the liter, so at least you have an idea of how big that is. After the first time you purchase an kilo of something when you really wanted a pound (2.2 pounds to the kilo) you will have a good feel for kilos. Especially if you have to eat hamburger for seemingly forever. After a while you won't need to convert because you will have been outside in various temperatures, purchased goods using the different weights and measures, and you will have adjusted, execpt to the odd things, like stone.
