I am an American interested in moving overseas...I currently reside in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania...I just returned from a 2 month European adventure, just graduated film school and am interested in working and living in England for 6 months to a year.

I was wondering what the employment was like and how hard it is in acquiring a working visa...I have yet to visit the British consulate in NYC.

The normal sequence of events is that you find a job (long-distance) and then you move over there. There are a number of programs out there, however, that set up short-term job exchanges like what you're looking for. Check out the CIEE and other student exchange programs.

I'm from Manchester, now living in Australia. Both Manchester and Liverpool are great places. Just like everywhere they have there down sides.

You really do need to look into getting work first.

If you end up in that neck of the woods, I have some friends who may put you up and show you around.

Hello, I too am from the Philadelphia, PA area (now living in London) I went to school at Drexel.

Everyone is giving the same good advice...try to find a job first.

You may consider searching out international companies with offices in the U.S. Interview with them in the U.S. Make a great impression and express your interest in working for their U.K. branch. They probably won't pay to move you, but may offer you a job and work permit if you can get there and find a place to live.

We moved over in August from the Princeton, NJ area and have continued writing about all of our experiences, some of which you may find useful.
