Default University fees

When we make our move to the UK, our daughter will be wanting to start university. She has an English Passport (her Dad was born UK). I have heard that unless you attend school in England for 2-3 yrs, you would be considered an international student- ie enormous uni fees???
We were hoping she would be eligible for the equivalent of HECS.

Ive searched to try and find that requirement but found nothing. Uni fees are now up to £3k a year after the top up was added. For example my daughters tuition fees were £1000 per year in Derby before top up came in.

I would have thought that having a British passport she would be eligible, I think all you can do is email one of the universities to check

Another option, a friend I'll be moving with is studying as an external student. The fees for learning via corrospondence seem more internationally competitive.

Default I think fees have gone up a lot now

My brother just started uni and it;s £3k a year for his fees, I remember when I was at uni it was more expensive for international students.

When I did my teaching qualification around 2000 in the UK, we all received a grant, except one lady who had spent many years out of the UK and was excluded and had to pay the full amount. On the form we had to complete, it asked whether we had been out of the country for more than three years.

Not sure about the situation today, but it was unfair as at that time, all my ESOL students got free English and computer classes and yet this lady had to pay 500 pounds and she was British born and bred.
