Cool Teaching in the UK

So, I've decided this is something I'm going to do for a few years. But what's the best way to go about it?

I've got an Australian teaching qualification but no experience... but I want to get on with life already - which doesn't happen living out in the middle of nowhere.

So, do I sign up with a recruitment firm? apparently they can take up to 1/3 of your pay! but it'd mean I'd have a job lined up when I go over there..

Also I'm planning on living in West London.. but do I do supply teaching, or something long-term or permanent?

Ah, decisions decisions... advice appreciated!

Whoaaaaa .... recruitment companies in the UK dont charge the employee, they charge the employer! Do not pay a recruitment company. You basically register with them and they match you with jobs available.

Are you a brit passportholder? Do you have to get work permit etc?

You will need to check whether your Australian teaching qualification is acceptable. All the teacher's in the UK need a generic/specific teaching qualification. There was a cut-off date when they said you would need this qualification before being employed - not sure if it has been reached yet, but I think it was this year. It is known as the Post-Graduate Certificate in Education.

I hope this helps a little

hmm perhaps I said that wrong - the recruitment firm pays you. The school pays them the entire amount, the recruitment firm then pays you a lower amount. the pay you get from the recruitment firm can be up to 1/3 lower than if you got the job being your own agent.
Of course, you wouldn't pay them. but they don't pay your airfare/relocation costs/etc either.

And yeah, got a UK passport so that was easily sorted.

As for the teaching qualification, It is a post graduate certificate, but I'd be a Non-Qualified Teacher, but all that requires is a steady job in a school who'd be willin to sponsor me... anytime in the next 4 years. since I plan to take long-term contracts or a permanent job I don't think it'll be a problem.

That is how agencies work, its not as bad as it sounds, you should still get on or near the average pay for your position. Its just they will charge more for supplying you in the first place.
