Default Uk Ancestry Visa & moving from Canada questions.

Greetings and salutations, my name is Sarah & I'm new here. My plan is to move to the UK from Canada, where I currently live, in 2009.

My grandmother was born in the UK, and thusly I am apparently entitled to apply for the UK Ancestry visa.

Does anyone know of any reputable agencies to which I might peruse their website/information in regards to procuring my grandmothers original birth certificate? She gave me a copy of her b.c. before she died, but unfortunately the High Commission only accepts the original. And of course the jumping through hoops begins...

Also, does anyone else have experience with this type of visa? Or, has anyone else moved to the UK from Canada? Just curious as to what type of kerfuffles to expect.

As for me, I currently live in British Columbia and work as an office manager at a resort, I have no criminal record or anything that might inhibit me from obtaining a visa, I speak 3 languages. Any other advice for someone wanting to move to the UK?

Thanks and kind regards.

Hi,
If you have a copy of her birth certificate you should write to the Registrar's office where the original was issued/her birth was registered. You should give the reference for the appropriate entry line, the quarter in which the birth was registered plus the name and date of birth so that they can identify the entry you want. Alternatively you could write the Registrar of Birth's Marriages and Deaths in London. It used to be at Somerset House.
Good luck

Thanks, that's what I might do. And if at all possible I might just scan and send them the copy I have, so that at least they can try and read it. My god, the penmanship back in that day! Impossible to read!
