Default Church of England marriage?

Hi ,

I was wandering if it's possible for my partner to come to UK on tourist visa and for us to get married? We have no intention of staying in the UK, since they have changed the immigration rules it's not possible for us. I am pregnant so his main purpose of visit will be for the birth of his baby. Being married is going to make it easier for me and the baby to join him in his home country.I am christened and have lived in a parish 6 months+. I understand that if we marry through church of england they will not require proof of permission we are able to do so and visas etc beforehand. A tourist visa just seems a lot less hassle.. i have struggled to find out much information on a marriage visitors visa . Anyone done this ?

Hi Lope85,
Here are the rules and requirements set down by UKBA, to get married in Uk, and the paperwork etc they require to do so,

Marriage and civil partnership: your legal obligations : Directgov - Government, citizens and rights

It seems a lot of proof and paperwork, just to get married, would it not be easier to get married in your husband to be's home country? after the baby is born, as you say you don't meet the immigration depts new rules. Maybe he would be granted a short visitors permit for the birth of the baby, but I think you would have to contact the UKBA to enquire, or maybe he could go to the UK consulate in his home country to arrange a visa.

One of the very clear restrictions/requirements of entering the UK on a tourist visit visa is that you do not intend to marry or enter a civil partnership, so no. See the UKBA website:

UK Border Agency | Can you come to the UK as a general visitor?

Here is a link to the UKBA website with all the information you need on applying for a marriage visit visa which is required if you intend to marry in the UK but then take up residence in another country:
