Default EEA National's Passport Copy

Hi,

I think I have asked this before a few months back but can't seem to find it and would like a bit more clarification I suppose.

When it comes to submitting a copy of the EEA national's passport with my EEA FP application, I understand that it has to be endorsed by the Maltese Embassy/Consulate. I was told that my husband doesn't have to come back to Malta to have this endorsed here but that he can get it done in Edinburgh at the Consulate.

I guess what is messing with my head is the statement from the UKBA site that says, "in the country of application". What does this mean? "In the country of application"

Hi,

He needs to contact the nearest Consulate and asked them to certify his passport. Often times there is a fee associate with this. Then he needs to send you that certified copy, which you will include with your application.

Thank you once again. I'll tell him to contact the consulate in Edinburgh then once done (assuming they will do it) i'll have him mail it to me here.

"... copy of the EEA national's passport, endorsed by the EEA national's embassy in the country of application); ..."

This demand for a certified copy of a passport is very tiresome since I travel only on my national ID card. The link provides no guidance for that, but I imagine a copy of the ID card certified by the local authorities of my country (Switzerland) will do. We obviously don't have an embassy in our own country; it's the local authorities who issue passports and ID cards.

This isn't unusual: UKBA writing rules that imagine every country is run like theirs. Still, even the UK doesn't have an embassy in Britain!
