Default English language requirement for partners

Hello,

I am a national of a country outside the EU and I'm in the process of applying for a UK spouse visa. I hold a master degree in finance from a well known american universality and I was wondering to know whether should I take this English test or not. Please advice :-)

Nate

Try this link. Though from this paragraph from link cited it seems you've might have met the requirement.

"Meeting the Requirement
How can an applicant meet the new English language requirement?
An applicant can meet the requirement in one of the following ways:
1. by passing an acceptable test at a minimum level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) with an approved provider, or
2. by being a national of a majority English speaking country, or
3. by having an academic qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or PhD in the UK, which was taught in English."

I'm no expert and I'm sure someone else here can verify it.

On the UKBA site, there is a points based calculator allowing you to calculate the points which you have from attending that University and whether or not you are exempt from the ELT Requirement. Try also the UK NARIC website, it should offer some insight regarding your issue.

I think the safe thing is to pay UK NARIC to confirm that your degree is equivalent to the level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Though, being taught in the USA, it should be OK.
