Default Fiancé(e) Visa

Hi all,

I'm back in Canada now, and starting to gather the documents for my Fiancé(e) Visa application, but I have a few questions about the specifics needed from the UKBA.

My first question is about the documents I should include as proof of accommodation. My fiancé owns a two-bedroom house in the UK, where we will live once married, and I was planning on including a copy of the mortgage statement as our only proof. However, after reading through some posts on the same issues, I'm beginning to wonder if this is enough. What exactly should I include to prove this part of our application?

And, with regards to the property, my fiancé splits his time between the UK and France, as he works in Paris. To prove he has ties to the UK, I assumed his owned house would be proof enough. But, should I include anything further? His schedule? A commuter letter from work?

I'm also struggling when it comes to the amount of proof to include about our relationship. We've been together for five years, so have a lot to hand over, but I don't want to overwhelm whoever reads through our application! We've both written letters about our relationship, explaining the nature and history of it, and will include pictures, travel details, etc. But, what exactly are they looking for here?

And, finally, maintenance requirements. I've applied for visas in the past, and have always done the same thing when it comes to printing bank statements here in Canada. I go to the bank, get them to print out every transaction from the last six months, stamp, date, and sign it. I've tried to explain this to my fiancé, but he seems to think it doesn't need to be this formal. I'd feel better if he went to his bank in France, but would there be a way for him to get the appropriate bank statements he needs without doing so?

As always, any help is appreciated!

Original mortgage statements and title deeds will be fine. For my partner's application, I threw in the Council Tax and a couple of utility bills too showing that I had responsibility for all the bills.

The bank statements must either be paper originals mailed by the bank, or if printed, every page must be stamped by the bank. Any less than this and UKBA will disregard them and you will either be asked to provide all the papers at short notice or, worse, the visa application will be refused (either can happen - seemingly dependent on which hub is handling it). Anyway, you are right: no shortcuts with this at all.

Agree with 2Far.

I sent in my fiancé's ORIGINAL mortgage statement, await wasn't easy/convenient for him to get a Land Registry entry... we figured that with the balance on the mortgage and the general location of Ed's flat was enough.

As for the banking info, Ed inquired at Lloyd's (his main bank) and they printed off/stamped 6 months of bank statements.... they refused to acknowledge the print outs Ed brought with him.

Good Luck to you!
