Default Work visa - passport renewal

Hello, i have a 5 year work visa for working/living in the UK. I'm an US citizen. I need to renew my passport but if i do, they will send me a new passport that doesn't have the page with my work visa in it, correct? What will happen at that point? do i just bring both passports (old and new) when i re-enter England? Or is there some way of getting the visa into my new passport. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Daniel

Hello Daniel,

These days, your visa is linked to your passport number. Also your new passport can be swiped in and machine read. I have a spouse visa in Australia, and there is no stamp in my passport. When I enter Australia, they swipe my passport and I'm motioned in.

Most likely getting a new passport will change nothing, but if you wish to be certain, take your old passport to the USA Consulate and ask that question. Sometimes a little peace of mind can be achieved easily, and the Consulate should be able to give you a definitive answer.

cheers,
