exchanging an oz licence for a uk licence

My licence expires in a month and I was wondering if anyone has found a way of exchanging their licence without having to send their passport to swansea? My husband managed it a year ago by going into the Wimbeldon office but I can't seem to find out if that still works and it would be good to know before I schlep out there. Anyone do it recently?

Can you do it by just sending whatever visa you are on in Britain, just to show that you live here? The turnaround isn't long at all.
