Default employment advice for US citizen immigrating to the UK with spouse

HI all,

We are moving to the Uk from the US, my husband is the US citizen and will be getting the spousal visa. We are concerned about employment when he gets there, I am aware of the poor job market over there but what are the best resources for CV assistance and employment? Are there agencies that deal primarily with US immigrating over??

thanks again for the advice
J

What does your husband currently do? Are there industry magazines, websites etc specifically for his industry. What about similar, competitor companies that he could apply to in the UK?

Don't know of any agencies dealing primarily with US immigrants. Since most employment agencies have local offices you should start researching in whichever area you live.

There is always the Job Centre (Government run) in all towns.

I think you're going to find that most potential employers won't even talk to job candidates until they are on site (i.e. at least in the UK) with visa in hand. In the meantime, he should check the usual job boards (Monster, Stepstone, etc.) to find out the names of the employment agencies that list jobs there. They would be one place that could help with his CV preparation once he's over there.
Cheers,
Bev

We are looking the exact same way we do in the US. Look in trade magazines, websites, etc. Also check with some headhunters in the field. I agree with the previous posts most employers won't even look at the application until you have the right to live and work in the UK. There are a few who might do a phone interview before you move once the visa is complete if you are moving soon (a week or two).
