Default Concerns about how solicitor filled out application

Hi All!

Me and my fiance are about to send in our application for a UK fiance visa and the solicitor we have chosen has been very disappointing. They have filled out the online application and have done half of the application in cap locks and half in regular font size. I am just wondering if anyone knows if this will be seen as poor workmanship on the part of the UK Border Agency and Home office? I want everything to be perfect so we can get approved! I asked the solicitor and they said it was fine as long as the data was okay but I wanted to know what you all think. I'm so disappointed in the work of this company! We would like to send in the application today so if anyone could respond I would greatly appreciate it!

I would be ticked too if someone did a sloppy job like your solicitor did. However, this should have no influence on whether your application is accepted or rejected. It may not be a professional work but your application is determined by your documentation and not by how the form is filled and they cannot reject you on that basis.

You could probably have saved heaps of money and aggro by doing the application process yourself, as most do successfully after getting free help from this forum where needed. Cap locks won't disqualify, but will probably annoy the visa officer!

We *nearly* used a solicitor (being together was so important we wanted to take no risk with any mistakes), but we were told here that it was likely not at all necessary - and it wasn't. Had it not been for this forum, we would have blown an unnecessary £1800 with a solicitor MOST eager to process our application - presumably because it would have been a very easy £1800 in our case!

The help here was marvellous and got us through our fiancée visa without any difficulties and is now helping with our FLR application. The forms are bewildering and, when it feels like your life is depending on the success of a once-only application opportunity, it's tempting to pay an expert - especially as UKBA online guidance can be confusing and not always forewarning you clearly of pitfalls (like NOT leaving the UK for a honeymoon after marrying on a fiancée visa and not choosing just ANY Registry Office for marriage). But unless there are significant complexities or you are appealing against a decision, it might save you some money to cut your losses, fill out the form yourself and discontinue engaging the services of this solicitor.

However, as you are paying for the services of the solicitor, you have the absolute right to insist that a decent job is carried out. If the solicitor has only completed (but not yet submitted) the form, they can still change it.

Thanks all for your advice. We had called the solicitor just to ask a question and ended up being convinced that getting a solicitor is the BEST way to get approved. We paid 1000pounds and so far all they have done is filled out the application, which I could've done after completing their questionnaire, and gave us a premade letter of representation. I wish we had done it ourselves and the reason we went with the solicitor is because we just wanted the peace of mind and they have provided none!! I've even had to go and copy all our evidence, put it together and submit it myself. I'm so disappointed and I will most surely check this forum when help is in need! I will probably ask the solicitor to correct the font, I'm just afraid they will do something to sabotage our visa!

If all goes as planned application gets submitted this week and we are going to go through worldbridge for faster response! Thanks again!

Using WorldBridge will yield a faster response ONLY if you chose the priority service option @$300. Worth every penny especially now that the average determination period has risen to 9 days (as of 23rd April).

Joppa (or members who have done the WB priority option) can explain how to use that option much better than I can, the basics are that after you attend your biometrics appointment and are ready to submit your app and docs, you go back to the WB site, chose the priority option and pay, print out your receipt and put it on the top of your bundle, then hustle your app and docs to the post and be sure to write whatever the WB site tells you on the outside of the packet (it might be 'EXPEDITE' or PRIORITY', I can't recall which it is but it's very important that you do write that on the outside of the envelope).

You have to send your app and docs the same day that you pay for the priority service, also very important!

Ask me how I know...I chose to save the $$$. I waited 28 business days for a determination. And there were a shed load of bank holidays, American holidays, and I swear extra weekends in there!

Helpful links if you are coming from the US:

UK Border Agency | Enrolling your biometric information in the USA

This is how and where you can get your biometrics. You must have your Biometrics before you can submit your application.

This Link:

visa4UK :: Welcome

Is where you actually put in your application. You do your application and then follow the online instructions. It is worth paying the expedited service in my opinion. They will ask you where you want to get your biometrics. The best course of action is to book the biometrics as soon as you process the application. You must do so within 2 weeks. The expedited service got me my visa within 2 days.

Once you do the application online and get your biometrics it's then you send the application and supporting documents to the UKBA.

It's a little confusing as they aren't clear on site as to how, in this process, you book the biometrics apt. But it's after you submit the online application. There is usually a biometrics center near every major city in a state. The biometrics themselves took me all of 5 min once there but did take 5 days to book.

I hope this helps

Yes, and they prompt you to book your biometrics after submitting your online application. Nothing further happens with the online application at this stage (other than I think a cursory check). They then wait for you to submit your biometrics paper and supporting documents (they'll tell you on payment to mark your envelope with PRIORITY). After they've received that, they don't seem to take very long to decide (if paying Premium).

Thanks for the responses, so do I book my biometrics through Worldbridge or the UKBA?
