Default Home education / home schooling

Hi. I see plenty of posts from people looking for good schools but I find very little from people, like me, that intend to go for home schooling. When I finally settle down for retirement I will be assuming responsibility for a four year old for an indefinite period. I am sure that I can legally and correctly educate her at home, but I should have liked to make contact with parents that are planning on doing the same thing.
I have read arguments about home schooling being disadvantageous for Thai children as they will not be a part of Thai culture; I don't agree and furthermore many children go through school as outsiders, children can be very cruel.
Any comments or advice, please?

Hi

A couple of links -

this one from Bangkok Post Homeschooling spells freedom
Note the last two paras:
Quote:
Finally, after parents register with the ministry, officials will visit the homeschool once annually to assess and evaluate the student's education and learning environment.

Parents must also submit an annual report on what has been taught and students must sit the national assessment exams for Grades 3, 6, 9 and 12.
before I found that link, para 2 was going to be my question for you - are you disadvantaging the child in terms of them going on to further education? Mid-year and end-of-year exams in schools to determine the next year's subjects, and possibly which school they could attend, and onwards to further education/uni.

This site HSLDA has lots of links that may assist you; for Thailand it states

Quote:
Compulsory Attendance Ages: 7–16

Legal Status: Homeschooling is legal. Thailand’s constitution and education law explicitly recognize alternative education and considers the family to be an educational institution. In addition, Thai homeschoolers successfully petitioned the government for a homeschool law, which was passed in 2004. Ministerial Regulation No. 3 on the “right to basic education by the family” governs homeschooling. Families must submit an application to homeschool and students are assessed annually.

Thanks for the reply, I didn't find these sites when I looked. I must admit that I am surprised by the almost total lack of interest shown in the subject. Contact with other parents would be very helpful.
Anyway I will investigate and get back much later with a report on how it's going.
The four year old already speaks more English than most Thais...
