Default Music in Australia

What type of music do people like to listen to in Australia? Is there anywhere on the internet where I can listen to some of it? What music do you listen to?

In my humble opinion, the most popular music seems to be soft rock..think John Mellencamp (spelling?) type of music. I make my judgement by what is often played on the radio. They also like older music so if you are in your 30's it's great to hear music from your childhood and teenage years again played casually for no special reason. Aussie radio (at least in Queensland) doesn't seem to always bring in the brand new stuff. They are not a nation of kick-out-the-old-and-bring-in-the-new. And that goes for just about everything!! I feel that their taste for music is quite conservative and they do play a lot of Aussie music like Crowded House for instance. I must say that I've grown very used to radio here and I'm loving it.

Default Oz Music

Not sure what your tastes are, came up with a mix of Oz bands I love
Also try triple J radio not conservative, plays new stuff as well as old
Older stuff - Cold Chisel, Midnight Oil, Chain with Matt Taylor, Billy Thorpe & the Aztecs,Paul Kelly, Silverchair

Current - John Butler trio, Killing Heidi, Powderfinger, Jet, Kasey Chambers, ,Diana Ah Naid,
Current, both me & my kids like these Wolfmother, Grinspoon, Cat empire, Jebediah, Frenzal Rhomb, Hilltop Hoods, Grinspoon, Little Birdy, Sick Puppies

Hope you like some of these - look up the Big Day Out in your area in January or so, its a great chance to check out Oz bands

We were over in February visiting family and I was suprised to hear so many songs that I knew on the radio. Most of it was the same sort of chart stuff that we have in the UK although there was some stuff by Australian artists that I hadn't heard off but it was still similar.
