Default Sydney Traffic Advice

Hi all,

My wife and I move to Sydney in 6 weeks and we are searching for a suitable place to live. My wife will be working in the Baulkham Hills but we want to live beachside so have been considering Mosman / Balmoral. Google maps gives the commute to be about 35mins drive, but I was wondering if anyone could advise what this will be like in rush hour? I was hoping that with most of the traffic coming into the city it wouldn't be too bad going the other way?

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul, 35 mins is a very ambitious estimate. Give yourself at least an hour for the trip to & from Baulkham Hills to Mosman and that too on a good day. Suggest look up KellyVille/ Bella Vista, Bella Vista Waters. These are good new suburbs and you can find excellent houses with pools. Suggest you experience the daily traffic prior to signing any tenancy contract. Good luck.

I suppose it could be done in under an hour if you use all the toll roads. That would cost you between $15 - $20 each way. If I were you I'd live in the Hills and go to the northern beaches weekends and other days off!

Thanks for the advice. I'm not bothered about the toll costs if it means a faster commute - I had assumed the route would be Warringhah Freeway - Gore Hill Freeway - Lane Cove Tunnel - M2 Motorway. The main reason for moving is to have beachside living so I don't really want to live away from the coast. Unfortunately my wife's job is fixed (in Bella Vista) so we're just going to have to put up with the commute.

I'm assuming that Mosman is the quickest beach from the Baulkham hills?

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
Mosman is a suburb, not what you would call a beach. Balmoral has a nice little beach. Northern beach suburbs are from Manly up to Palm Beach. My beach of preference is Narrabeen. Don't know the commute time tho'. You can get from the Hills to there in around 45minutes but that's not peak time. If you want a beach suburb I'd research the area I mentioned. Don't fancy that commute every day in the summer! Hope this is of some help. Eleanor

Thanks Eleanor. Sorry I meant Balmoral beach but anywhere in the Mosman suburb should be close enough to the beach. Anyway I think we're just going to have to try out the drive in commuter time and see what it's really like. From what I've heard Manley is very nice, but it seems to be just that little bit further of a drive than Balmoral. Again though, I think this depends on what the roads are like at commuter time. I think an hour is acceptable but I was hoping that it would be more like 45-50 mins on most days. Seems like it's not going to be though
Paul
