The area is relatively good in terms of crime and poverty and such. However, whether or not it is a good place to live depends on what you are looking for. Everyone has their own preferences. Some people like to have a lot to do; other people like to live in a quiet and secluded area. Some people want to live near families, while others like to live near young and single people.

Default Scot in Margaret River

I moved to Margaret River WA and yes it is very quiet. I miss the pub culture that we have in Glasgow. I used to live in Bothwell near Hamilton.
I also do not find it very cheap to live here as this town is mainly for tourists and does not seem to have much soul. I find it pretty hard to meet friends as they never get past how you goin!!!!! I have just got myself a new job and have decided I will give it another 4 weeks and if I don't feel any better about Australia I will be coming home and looking for a job again arghhhhhh

Welcome to EF. Sorry I cant give any info on the specific suburb but if you need any advice RE any other aspect of emigrating from the UK to Oz I'd be happy to help. We moved to NSW from South Wales 16 months ago.

Take care

Hi, we are new here too also looking at the Alexandra Hills area of Brisbane (it's a small world!)
We are hoping to get out to Oz next year with 3 kids, 17, 5, 4, do you think this area is family orientated?
Looking forward to gathering even more info!

Default alex hills

Hi everyone, thanks for all your replies. From all the research we've done it seems to me like a perfect place to live, and yes there are families there. We too are heading to oz with 3 kids, 10 months, almost 5 and 8 1/2. Can't wait, it won't be until the end of 08 we arrive (unless something holds us back) but from what i hear these days, the system is a lot quicker.

Cleveland also looks beautiful, but Alex Hills state school is the school of interest for us.

Not looking forward to the 'nasties' though!!!

Hi scottishcelts. Have you been to Oz before? Can you share your reasons for your choice of school? I have been trawling through the schools directory to try and get some more insight into the right area to head for but there are soooo many!!!!
think our plan will be to rent a house for 6 - 12 months whilst we find our feet and suss out the whole situation before we make the final decision to buy but dont want to be dragging the kids from one school to another if we can help it.
Are you using an agent to make your application or doing it yourself?

Smile Alex Hills here we come!!!!!!!!!

)Hi again Jules,No never been to oz before and have never wanted to go somewhere so much in my life! can't wait although the very thought of uprooting is a killer! But worth the pain! You're right about the zillions of schools to choose from, it was quite easy for us as we wanted to be on the coast side of Brissie, and also my 8 year old requires some learning support in school, and when we decided that we liked the look of alex hills, we liked the name as it's scottish and how close it was to the coast, when we looked at schools we discovered the alex hills state school has a whole learning support building with the lot (occupational therapists, physiotherapists etc etc) that just finalised everything for us, it seems so perfect. Finally we decided against an agent as my sister in law and her husband are already in Brisbane and they used an agent, spent a fortune and said in the end they wished the hadn't bothered as they felt they done most of it themselves. So we are on out todd as they say.

Can't wait to get there. Hope this helps you make a few decisions.

Keep in touch and all the best

Hi again

Thanks for sharing that.

Dont worry about uprooting, we did it a few years ago, sold everything we owned, got on a plane with 3 suitcases and the kids and hot footed it out to Bulgaria!! Mind you, we have no real ties here so makes it a bit easier I think.
It was fantastic other than the language problems so looking forward to going to an English speaking country, will make life a whole lot easier.

Good luck to you and keep us updated on developments.
