Talking New to forum - Getting to know Oz

Hi i have just joined this forum today as i have been offered a job in Brisbane with the company i currently work for on a 457 sponsership visa. So i though it was time i spoke to others that have been there done it or going through it.

My company are sorting my visa out and should start soon but i wanted to get my paperwork ready before hand, any ideas of what i will need, im guessing birth certificate, passport but not sure what else.

Also is it best to get a Oz bank account set up before i go or when i get there??

Cheers

Hi Bluecookie,
ace handle!

If i can offer any advise it is;

Get your bank account sorted, HSBC take about 3 weeks to set up and activate the account from the UK; maybe ANZ do it quicker????

Medicals; it took us a month to sort an appointment with the local panel quack; maybe your company can sort it out quicker for you! Hopefully they will pick up the tab, too. Cost about £350 per person, then x-ray on top!

Visa can take between 2-8 weeks, depending on where, when etc..... some threads are suggesting a faster turn around time!

I expect you work for a multi; in which case you might get lucky, and all will be sorted for you.

Good luck with the move.
Regards
Jane

hey bluecookie,

we're also moving to brisbane on a 457 visa, we applied for the visa ourselves, the paperwork required was, passports, marriage cert (if u changed yr name), birth cert, qualifications, references, copy of cv, nomination transaction reference, confirmation of employment and police checks. There is a list of things required on the DIAC website.

Once they receive the application they then appoint a caseworker, and ask for medicals, ours cost £330 for myself and 2 children the x-rays £165 for 2 adults. It all took about 8wks.

Good Luck with the move, I hope this helped

Welcome Bluecookie and congratulations!

The doctor for the medical has to be one selected from one of their panel of doctors and not just your local GP.

Regards,
Karen

Thanks guys that has helped. I have had an email this morning from my companys Migration and Relocation officer and she said she will be asking for the info soon. So i'll sit and go thorough my paperwork this weekend dig out the stuff you told me about Jam.

I know Northern mover, i was not expecting it to all be reimbursed it was a pleasant surprise. Im at the moment trying to sell my house...lol lets hope that happens sooner than later. As things seem to be moving quicker than i ever thought. When i first enquired about moving over i was told a visa could take 6 months or more!!!! Think i'll be renting the house out......!!

How many of you are going over Northern, 4k for flights is alot??

6 of us cookie!
The timing is crucial too; flight cost rise in november, and december.
We've sold our house, and will need to move in october.......

I have been in the process for 4 months now; nursing beurocracy and incompitence holding me up........

Having said that, we are about half way thro' packing, sorting the account, finding places to stay when we arrive in Adelaide. Can't complain about it, it has to be done, mate

Good Luck
J

Hi Airwaves;

that is correct, the 457 is a long stay business sponsored visa, which is conditional on an employment offer.
Personally, i am a nurse, and specialise in theatre recovery(pacu) and chronic pain ( acupuncture therapist); my o h is an accounts manager, but i am the main applicant.

The process is fairly comprehensive;

Check out employment field, then look for a reasonable employment/ migration agent!
Apply, interview, be offered a job.
When you get written offer, the process of application begins; medicals; police check; visa review..... the rest as they say is a breeze!

Good Luck
Jane
