Hi,

I'm new here and think this forum is great for finding lots of info. Well I have applied for a permanent visa under 176 class. I'll be moving with my wife and 1 year old kid.

What worries us most is the probability of finding a decent job as soon as we arrive. I'm in the IT field and my wife is in administration. How long do you think it will take us to settle with a job?

Hi guys, that's a bit like asking how long is a piece of string. There's plenty of admin work in Melbourne and IT work too. It might just depend on what work you want to settle for and how much money you are prepared to work for. There are a couple of websites that can help you with finding work including one called seek

Hi Airwaves,

Have you checked out the job websites in the "PLEASE READ...." post towards the top of the forum. That will give you an idea of what's available in your field and where.

I agree with Maggiegirl that it's a difficult question to answer. If your field is in demand you may get a job quickly... You can always start contacting employers when you get your visa so that you may have some interviews lined up even before you get here. I think it was Dolly's husband that was interviewed for an IT job in Melbourne by video meeting....

Regards,
Karen
