Default Nice place to live

Hi everyone, my husband, son and I are moving to Sydney within the next few months. My husbands flight is 10th October and we will hopefully be following by christmas. We are still very unsure of the best possible places to set up home. First we need to find something small and furnished that allows cats until our furnature arrives then something larger.
We have had a couple of places recommended to us that are a little further out, so should be cheaper, i.e. Castle Hill being one of them.
To begin with we dont really want to be paying more than 500 per week.
Can anyone recommend an area where they have good transport into Sydney each day that wont break the bank until we are settled. Thanks in advance

Hi

I hate to sound pessimistic, but I don't think you'll find a furnished 2 bedroom property anywhere in Sydney that takes pets for under $500/week. I had a look on the real estate websites and I couldn't find a single one. Furnished properties aren't very common in Oz - I think you may have to look for unfurnished which have many, many more properties available and for a lot cheaper - wtih the extra savings you can buy a few pieces of cheap furniture; or otherwise put the cats into care for a while until the furniture arrives.

Initially I suggest you look at the Inner West, Parramatta, or Northern suburbs regions until you get your furniture, later on the hills district is a great family area.

Hope this helps

Hi,
You could also look at renting essential items of furniture until your own arrives - it's quite common here to rent furniture. Try Mr Rental. When we first arrived we stayed in a holiday rental (that was furnished) that we booked through Rentahome, but it's not necessarily a cheap option (probably more than you've budgeted).
Good luck with your plans.

Thank you both for your responses. I think unfurnished is the way to go. Thank you for suggesting Mr Rental, I will certainly look into this option.
I have emailed a couple of agents but unfortunately they really are backwards in coming forward to offer advice or even advise of any properties. Im going to have another stab at it later with the extra advice in mind.
Thanks all 

I wouldn't bother callin agents until you are in Australia. $500pw in Australia isn't a lot of money and you'll struggle to get their attention with 500pw in the country let alone being a few months away.

Once I arrive in Australia we can spend a lot more per week it's mainly just while my husband is there alone. Thought he could poss stay alone until we arrive but it does look like he's going to have to get something tiny until we arrive.
The exchange rate is doing us no favours at the mo but once we are settled in jobs and our house in the uk is rented out, life should be easier.

Default Finding right place to live in Australia

A couple of suggestions to add would be:

1) Suburb View : Australian Real Estate Search for Google Earth and Google Maps - You can filter properties and results displayed in Google map format. Should give you a visual indication then of how far properties in your price range are from city centre & public transport. You can use zoom, click on house icons to see more details, and view surroundings by dragging mouse across photo image that appear bottom left of screen.

Note: Results pulled from other real estate search engine so relies on their data being accurate so need to double check property still available by looking for it in realestate.com.au

2) Real Estate - Find Property, Homes, Houses | realestateVIEW.com.au is another similar concept also allowing viewing in aerial or birds eye more (see top of screen)

3) realestate.com.au local voices | Best Regions to Live in, Best Suburbs and Streets - Local advice on places to live. Comments are of course based on personal opinion but if you get similiar comments from a few then worth taking onboard.

Good luck with your property hunting!
