Default New and after advice please

Hi.

I just found this forum and in the nick of time.

I have been given the chance to take employment on a 457 visa in Perth. The wage would be around the 80,000 AUD mark if that is of any use to you.
We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children aged 6 and 9

We would be looking to rent initially but my questions are:-

1 what is the tax on this sort of wage.

2 for an average family exsitance would the wage of 80 k be enough to support everyone?

3 do we qualify for rebates, benefits 8 like child allowance etc

I am already an expat and now live in Norway where everything is very expensive in comarison to the uk. I remember finding the info on taxes etc really hard to get a grasp of and this is why i am asking now.

house wise we would be looking at getting dsomething 4 beds, garden etc. pool would be nice but not at all necessary.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there,

To be offered a wage of $80K in Australia is a VERY good salary (average is $45K) and yes, certainly enough to keep a family on although a little easier if you are both working and then bringing in $100K.
The tax on $80K works out at a net income of $1169 per week after tax. The average house will cost between $300-350 per week rental with an average food bill for a family of four at $200 per week.
Fuel is currently $1.50 a litre and should you wish to purchase a house, prices in Perth are amongst the highest in the country with a median price of $450,000.
You'll love it!

I recommend you make enquiries into the Living Away From Home Allowance.

The LAFHA is a tax free element of a salary package - maybe research the internet, and then enquire of your prospective employer.

Other than employer sponssoring the visa, is there a govt sponsored opyion too?

Need to make sure i find as much info as possible. I would imagine i will find a job. Work in Sfaety for oil companies at the moment.

My wife is a labratory secretary but is also qualified to take bllod samples and simple analysis. She is actually educated in Visitor management from the university of Stavanger in Norway. she should find work too... don't you think?

Thanks so much for your help.

This is a visa strategy question. In short, yes, certain occupations appear on the wanted skills lists of State and Territory Governments. State Sponsorship can in turn allow a skilled visa application to proceed under subclass 176 or 475 (note - not 457).

The subclass 475 is a provisional skilled visa, and requires one to live and work in a regional area for a couple of years before you make a subsequent application for permanent residency.

The subclass 176 visa provides for permanent residency from the outset.

If you would like to discuss further, please feel able to telephone 023 80 30 2525 (Southampton, UK) - ask for my migration agent colleague Emma Smith-Jones.

Hope this helps.
