Default Bad experience with movers

I am in the process of moving from London to Sydney and wanted to let other expats know that I have had a very negative experience with Doree Bonner International and would not recommend them to anyone.

We chose them based on the price they quoted, only to be told with a very short time to go that their quote was wrong and there would be additional charges we would have to foot for them to carry out the job on the dates agreed.

We have had to go with them as none of the other companies we looked at are able to accommodate us with only a few days to the move date, but I am very unhappy and considering further action.

Sorry to hear you are having a bad experience. Through my work; I deal with a lot of frieght, shipping commodities by truck and rail. Something I've learned is that the frieght and additional charges are always subject to change up until the time you "have wheels under your frieght." I'm guessing the quoted price was followed by a lot of tiny print filled with exceptions

If the company made a mistake in the quote, hopefully they would work with you. If they informed you prior to the move, technically I doubt they are legally in the wrong. Other charges that would be legitamate is if they had a fuel surcharge clause, if the actual weight of goods is higher than the estimate that the quote was based on, if the total value of the goods is higher than the quote was based on.

Something else I've learned. If one bid is far lower than all others, one of two things happens. You get what you pay for and end up disappointed that it is was short of expectations. You find they can't do it that cheap and it costs you as much or more than the other quotes.

Hi Possum,

Welcome to the forum.

As Floyd mentioned I know the small print with Harrow Green (UK to Melbourne) mentioned that they could revise the charges but luckily our quote was correct.

Are you actually in Sydney yet or are you still in the UK with your stuff in transit?

Regards,
Karen
