Default Cost Calculation before moving to Australia

So far I couldn't find any agent in my town who can give me idea for moving to Australia. I'm planning to move in Melbourne and before move I need to do calculations. I've couple of questions if someone can answer cut n clear.
  • If I’m on job and If I take car on lease, will I pay tax on that?
  • If I’m on job and if I take care on cash, will I pay tax on that?
  • Does tax deduct on Gross salary or Net salary?
  • Do I’ve to pay tax on my allowances offer by employer?
  • How can I pay minimum taxes? What kind of expenses I can show an job person.
  • If I income is $150/anum, What are total deductions apply on that so I can analyze cash in hand.
  • How much car loan estimate for 2 litre car for 4 years lease?

Hi asifkilwani,

Where are you moving from? When you say agent do you mean migration agent? You can contact others that aren't in your town, or even in your country

Have you checked out the Australian Tax Office (ATO) website? The link in under the tax section of the "PLEASE READ...." post. As far as I know we don't have any Aussie accountants on forum as yet.

As far as I'm aware I've never known tax that is deduct on net salary for an employee (in the UK) anyway. I think it's the same here since my husband gets his tax deducted at source on the gross amount.

I would check the ATO website. I know that's how it works in the UK but since moving her my husband isn't in the sort of job where he gets any any allowances unless you mean personal tax allowances?

I would have thought you need to talk personally to a Aussie accountant since personal circumstances differ and advice for one person may not be correct for another. There may be some advice for this on the ATO website since they publish guides in one of the Property Investment magazines explaining how to make all your tax deductions.

I assume you mean $150K / anum? There is a tax calculator on the ATO website that should help with that question.

If you check out some of the bank websites such as ANZ, NAB, Commonwealth, St Georges or any other bank, they will give you an idea of loan costs.

Karen

Just for my understanding of Job offer, I checked few jobs on internet and they offer $120,000/annum, does it mean that its a gross salary or it can be merge of basic salary, home allowance, car allowance & etc?

Well I think it can't be expensive than Dubai. As an expat I'm looking for place where there are human rights and country provides citizenship.

Also if you've potential in your career you can afford country like Australia.

I'm surprised that they don't state that in the advert... I would assume gross salary unless stated otherwise. I assume you checked some other jobs to see if they mentioned allowances... I've not applied for a job here so hopefully someone else can answer this too.

I think it depends on where you move from and where you settle here. Yes the cost of living is higher than I expected but we looked around for where we wanted to live and we found that property in some areas (and good areas too) was much cheaper than where we were in the UK. There's no way we could have afforded a house like this one where we used to live and that has enabled us to put some more money into investments which help pay for other things etc.

It was important for us to get out of the rat race and people moving here need to think about what is important for them (and their family if they have one) so that they are improving their situation (whatever that means for them).

Regards,
Karen
