Default Please HELP >> Just got Sponsored

Hello All,

I have just got sponsored in my job that I have being working for (2 Months)
I really hate my job but really like Australia. I want to stay here for a few years
but don't know about leaving my job.

My question is how long do I have to stay with this employer now that I have sponsorship as I want to pursue to attain Permanent Residency to start a role I am more skilled/qualified for.

Thanking you in Advance

Hi DonUK,

Sorry to hear that you hate your job. Is it the job itself or the conditions?

What does your sponsorship say? Does that say that you have to stay with that employer for x years? I don't know much about sponsorship since we didn't come in that way but I would suggest talking this over with an agent. In your position I wouldn't want to stuff up and potentially ruin my chances of staying in Oz and getting PR. There are a couple of agents who post on here occasionally such as Alan Collett. You can either contact the agents through their links in the their signatures or through the membership list.

Regards,
Karen

Hi,
from what i can garner, a sponsored visa is contracted for anywhere between 2 and 4 years. If you leave during this time, you may incur costs, and invalidate the visa; i.e you will need another sponsor for the duration!!
Hope that helps
Jane

I think it all depends on what your employee has stated on your paperoword,
My wife can transfer with her employee but has to stay with them for 1 year.

But i think to get residency you need to be there for 3 years.

Hello,

DonUK it is impossible to give you any advice without knowing which visa you have been sponsored on, and preferably a bit more about your qualifications and work experience.

Although I can say this: there are a number of employer sponsored visas, each with different conditions. The 457 visa (which is what I suspect you have) is conditional on you remaining with that employer until you have obtained a different visa or until your current visa expires.

If you want to get away from your employer don't do anything until you have found a new one to sponsor you and you have lodged a new 457 visa application. If you are on a 457 and you stop working for your employer before you have applied for a new visa, you will be in breach of your current 457 and you could get into very serious trouble.
