thanks voddy,

We have booked an apartment in CBD on castlerage street for a week, but we would not be able continue there as it is quite expensive so we are looking to sort out rental in some cheaper suburb like, Harry's Park, Paramatta, Black Town, Rockdale, eastwood etc.

We r keeping our eye open on realestate.com.au, domain.com.au and gumtree. Please let me know if you come across anything which might suit us.

Many Thanks.

hi randhir,

it is not easy getting accommodation offshore, it is difficult even when you are here as they need a lot of docments like pay slips, rental history etc, just provide your bank statement, passport copy, we saw 10-12 properties, got approved for two, one was very far so we gave that one up, the other we took as you might be aware. what you can do is look at shared accommodation for now. many gurdwaras adn temples have a notice board wehre they put up numbers of people looking for someone to share their place. i would also suggest looking at the areas first before deciding on where you want to live, her ein Melbourne we were sure we would want to stay in areas like preston, in or around the city but when i saw the areas it was a no no, too crowded, end of teh day you do not keep shopping all day, you need peace of mind as well adn it is better if one stays away from markets and shops, saves a lot of money .. we normally go to aldi, woolworth, reject shop, dollar king, target for shopping, there are shops around but if you compare prices, they are way too expensive, something as basic as milk comes for 5$ for 3 liter, teh same milk at woolies comes for 3.49$, being around shops does not really help if you ask me. as for India grocery shops, good thing about Indian groceries is, you can buy in bulk and store, like rice, flour, lentils, i have been to the indian store just once and i know now that we have a house we will be buying in bulk and no more rounds for next 4-6 months of the indian store.

Thanks Anj for valuable information. Since we have booked furnished apartment for small time, our priority would be quickly find and move in some apartment and then hunt for better one. Thanks for pointing to temple and gurudwaras, will do that too.

Regards,

I agree it is difficult to arrange an accommodation offshore, however it is a totally different story when you arrive. There are LOADS of real estate news, you can pretty much find them everywhere.

Another thing, you mentioned Sydney area in the original post. Do you mean Sydney city (the CBD) or other suburbs that belong to Sydney as well?

Thanks Srikanth,
I will keep all updated here. For now, we have booked Thai Airways delhi to Sydney. 16 hours of flight including 2 hour connection @ Bangkok. Last time we booked our accommodation @ Ragis tower in Sydney CBD and it was Quite good. We are trying the same apartment this time too, failing to which we might book something else.

A lot of things to do, I had excess luggage +10Kgs from Bahrain now I have to reduce 10 Kgs in India.

Regards,
Randhir Singh

can't you pay for the extra luggage and still take them?

Thanks all for your support,
Here we are in Sydney, settled well and enjoying new country, new climate and new people. We arrived Sydney on 18th August 2011, we had booked furnished apartment in CBD for 10 days through internet. We spent first week in Sydney by setting up our Bank account, TFN, Centerlink and photo id cards.

Within first 10 days we were able to search renal apartment in Sydney city itself. Spent a week arranging basic stuffs, electricity, gas connection, internet, furniture, sofa, bed, fridge, TV etc. Second week after getting Apartment got a job. So, here we are, we are going to soon complete 8 weeks in Sydney and we have lived and enjoyed every moment we spent here.

Thanks everyone for ur best wishes and support.
Regards

Randhir Singh
