Default Health Care & Pregnancy

Hi,

We are off in 9 days and are having problems trying to get to grips with the private health care system. My husbands job has a corporate scheme with MBF but it doesn't see to cover me who will be 3 months pregnant when we arrive and I have a kidney condition. For this pleasure the cheapest quote is $70 per fortnight. I just assumed it was like over here that you company gives you health insurance and you don't have to worry about paying it etc..

So the long and short of it is not sure if we should go with someone else...does anyone know of an insurance company that would take me on pregnant??

Cheers

Christina

Hi Christina,

Sorry I don't know any insurance companies that will take you on pregnant but you may be able to find a list at Private Health Insurance Australia - iSelect. You may just have to get on the phone and keep asking. Hope you find one quickly!

Regards,
Karen

Hi There

I move to Oz when I was six months pregnant and no insurance company would take me on as I had a "existing condition". I take it you are from the States. I've heard if you are already paying insurance there you can transfer over to a company here. By the way I'm on a UK passport and didn't have to pay a thing. So don't get too stressed. Believe me I know how hard it is. Also its really hard moving to a new country and expecting a baby, so I wish you luck.

Hi BYO,

Nah I'm a pom! and will probably have to sign up with medicare asap. My first birth wasn't easy so I wanted to go private which we will probably do now just have to pay for it.
Thanks for the info.
