Default Can we survive?

Hi to all,
I am new here.
I would just like to ask some advise.
My wife has been nominated to work in NSW through 457 Visa.
She was offered a starting rate of 25AUD per hour.
Assuming woking hours is 5 days for 8 hours a day, can we survive financially?
We are a family of 3. Our son is only turning 4 so most possibly
I will just stay in the house and take care of our son. though I still plan to find work maybe after a year

Here in Philippines, me and my wife both have a work on a supervisory level.
We have a car and a house of our own and a nanny to take care of my son.
does it worth to give up all of those and migrate in australia?

Any advise will be appreciated, thanks in advance..

$25 an hour is just under $50k a year. I'd say it was nigh on impossible for a family of 3 to survive on that.

I'm on just a bit less than that and I struggle sometimes... And I'm here myself.

That's $52K pretax, depending on where you go you might struggle a bit and you definitely won't be able to afford a nanny.

Check out the tax calculator Tax Tools - Simple Tax Calculator to work out the tax side of things. Looks like you'll pay just under $16K in tax leaving you $36K to live on.

Rental will be around $18K per year (based on $350 p/week).

In addition, you'll have to get private health insurance on the 457 visa.

These are just ballpark figures to give you an idea of the outgoings you'll have.

Hi Dolly,

But isnt 36k or 3k per month good to survive till things improve? At 750 dollars a week gross minus 350 for rent 400 dollars a week should be quite acceptable to get a foot hold right?

Am not proving a point but just trying to reinforce to myself that one can manage the move since am planning to move on a 475 wherein at the start at best i can only get odd jobs at not more than possibly 25 dollars an hour....btw is it possible to get 02 odd jobs for 05 hours each as in a total of 10 hours a day including weekends?

Warm Regards,

DS

hi kabayan, medyo mababa yang $25 as far as i know, i'm also going there but on the west side and offer sa akin $32 nd level 2.2 on the scale..

you are moving to sydney which is the most expensive in AU but since your wife is on a 457 same as me,you can work kasi part of visa entitlements and restrictions yan, although yung education and medicare exempted kayo..
457 is giving you patway to permanent residency so everything will be ok..
you will survive,pinoy pa!!!

sorry i missed you other queries:

1. tax is at pay as you go system go to TaxCalc - Calculate your tax cut. 2011-2012 financial year, they tax you deadly on the first wage while waiting for your TFN. between AUD37,001 t0 AUD80,000 the tax is$4650 plus 30cents for every $1 over AUD37,000.

2. As far as i know as a nurse you start on probation for 6 months and passing your probation is also a criteria for permanent residency. they give you 6 weeks annual paid holidays, personal leave, compassionate leave plus the $25 hourly is only basic, wala pa jan yung superannuation, penalty points, overtime, uniform allowance, night duty differentials. But the most rewarding is the lifestyle.

3. The work hours are between 35 - 40 hours a week, depends on the institution you work for, mostly same in the Philippines that is 3 eight hour shift a day..so yeah 5 days.

your survival depends on what kind of life you want to have,if you choose to live like a one day millionaire then alam mo na yan.. but if you choose to duty before pleasure then that's the realization of your goal..maybe balanced.. i can't give you exactly the real score in Australia coz i'm not there yet but i work and live in an expensive country so experience would be nearly the same. try a book live and work in australia, very informative..

best of luck!!!
