Exclamation O to buy a bed.......

All, Greetings from a muggy London

This is the first thing I need as I am NOT taking mine in the container . I have looked at the websites (which as usual are poor and most don't give prices - Its the 80's again) and have found squat and to be frank, and started to get rather irritated.

Can someone out there PLEASE for the love of all things holy tell me what I am look to pay for a "normal" bed (wood) and a 1000+ coil strung mattress to the nearest AU$200.

OR

Point me to a site where one can mix and match, or is this asking too much?

Thanks
Karl

Hi

I am not very impressed the way Oz businesess are using Internet. I guess we have to get use to their conditions. I know I will miss lot of things:

1. US customer service, best in the world.
2. Cheap (Cars, clothes, furniture).
3. Cheap Electronics.( Bose life style home theatre 48x cost is 4K in us and 8k in Australia)
4. Ohh cheap whisky (Johny Walker Black label 1.75 littre $ 48.0)

What I will get in exchange ( I am hoping)

1. Less stress, better social life.
2. Ohh I get to watch India vs Australia live cricket match at SCG. This was one of my dreams when I was 14 yr old.

Hi Halo,

Apart from being behind the times with the Internet locally stores are always having sales and so the prices would almost always be out of date!

We got our bed from Fortywinks (but their website doesn't have prices - I just checked) or you could try IKEA since that does have prices on it and you can mix and match.

Regards,
Karen

We bought new beds when we arrived. As we did, you will just have to go to all the shops and see what there is. I did see some wooden framed beds. I too looked at websites before we came over and most didn't have prices.

The key to having a great life over here is to 'adapt'. Accept that some things irritate and get on. It's not Eutopia here, some things frustrate me to distraction sometimes but if you can't adapt and accept, you're life won't be a particularly happy one - embrace is my moto!

I'll have a look at some other websites and see what I can come up with (hopefully with full details ).

yes, I agree that companies are not really online like they are in the US and the UK, which is unfortunate. You'll find a nice bed here when you arrive because there are lots of furniture stores available and you can get solid timber for a reasonable price (unheard of in the US). I would expect to spend between $500 for a basic bed and $1000 for a nice one.

Do have to disagree with you Jimmy about the customer service. In the US, the customer service is good, but in Australia I have found it to be much better in most cases. I think you'll be surprised by it. But yes, things do tend to be much more expensive (you'll probably also have a higher salary to match)

I've found Our Range - Bedshed (but of course, no prices!).

Not sure which websites you checked but there's also FortyWinks, Bev Marks, Snooze, Beds R Us, Fantastic Furniture....
