Default bricklayer wanting to emigrate to sydney, australia

hiya guys, first thread
im 19 years old and i will be a qualified bricklayer with a NVQ level 3 qualification by the time im 21 (2 years time) ive been in the building trade for 4 years i hav experience in plastering and general construction so im experienced for a 19 year old but by the time im fully qualified i shud be much better. basically im wanting advice on wats the best way around obtaining a work permit and getting a job so i can work out there and then after a couple of years apply for citizenship. basically im mainly concerned about the experience side of what the employers are looking for when employing bricklayers in austrlia, like i dont want to get out there and they exspect me to lay 1000 brick a day and do wat a 20 year experience bricklayer can do. for any bricklayers who have emigrated or worked out there would i be able to find a job out there or they jst looking for really experienced brickies. what are the main jobs out there bricks or blocks?
many thx guys!! gregx

Hey greg,

Welcome to the forum.

There are a few bricklayers on the forum, hopefully they will be able to answer some of your queries.

Taking into account your work experience and qualifications you could apply for a 175 Skilled-Independent visa which will give you Permanent Resident (the magic words ) straight away. From start to finish, I guess you're looking at about a year before you'll get the visa - it's a l-o-n-g process.

Have a look at the sticky at the top of the page "thinking of emigrating" and "please read...". There's loads of info there so it'll take a while!

Citizenship can be applied for after living in Australia for 4 years.

I always recommend asking the advice of a migration agent, their first consultation is usually free without obligation. The process can be quite expensive so an option would be to use an agent for the skills assessment but do the main application yourself.

If you have any other questions, just ask away.

Dolly

Hi Greg, I'm a bricklayer living in Brisbane, why don’t you think about coming over on a "working holiday" visa, there are trillions of young English, Irish and most every other nationality here working and travelling for a year or two. I'm sure you would get by just fine work wise, check out my web site as it might give you some indication of the type of work we do here. I'm not allowed to post the full address but do a search on kevinmoranbricklaying and you should find it. My email address is also on the site, feel free to email me with any other questions you may have, good luck, Kevin
