Hi,

I've driven through a few of those places but to be fair I don't know what the property would be like.

I do love Southbank - loads of cafes and restaurants, very vibrant.

For starters, have a look at Cityhobo....it'll give you a brief description of suburbs.

There are a few members on here who live closer to the CBD than me that will be of more help..

Dolly

South Yarra or Toorak would be great for you. Southbank and Albert Park are also very upscale. The others I don't know about but I hear Docklands is not where it should be just yet (and to give you an idea of where it's headed, Australia's first Costco is going to be built there).

hehe erm, you've obviously been subjected to the propaganda machine that is the Melbourne Docklands project

Seriously, you've picked some great locations that do seem to suit your lifestyle requirements, but you can't really know which one is best for you until you get here. I think you've narrowed it down really well though, but don't make any decisions until you get here and see for yourself. They are all upscale but likewise they all have different atmospheres and attitudes, and none of that will come through on a website. Is your company willing to put you up for a while when you first arrive? That'll really help your house search.

Many thanks for all your insight. I nominate you to be one of the moderators for this board.
Good call. In that case, I think the areas that you've narrowed down are definites for checking out further once you arrive. Four weeks should (hopefully) give you time to find a place that you're happy with. If money is no object, then you should be able to find a suitable place fairly quickly.

hehe thanks for your nomination I'm not sure what the procedure is for making someone a moderator, though! In the meantime, I'm happy to be the "US consultant" for future Melbourne expats
