Default Degree required?

Hi all! My partner is going to perth next week for job interview (no4 for same job!) Just been looking through different posts. Do you need a degree to work in Perth?? Company has already seen CV, my partner does not have a degree but has years experience. Is it at the company discretion if they require a degree or not? Or will this just come to light when applying for VISA?? Scared gonna get hopes up only to be scuttled at such a late hurdle?!? Thanks for any advice in advance

Hi angie,

Welcome to the forum The degree requirements would have been included in the advertisement to which your husband responded. If your husband has progrossed to the 4th interview and they have actually asked him to travel from scotland to perth, it can only mean a good thing. Basically they would be wanting to see him in person and see if he can integrate in the company culture. Unless your husband slips up, I personally would say he is going to be good.

Various visas have differing degree requirements. You should check the DIAC site for the requirements of individual visas. Hope this helps!!!

You are right. If the advert didn't say anything, your husband's CV doesn't show degrees, yet they took him through 4 interviews and invited him to Australia, then degrees shouldn't matter.

If the company is sponsoring the 457 visa, it is expected to pay for the cost of the visa application. Whether they hire an agent or not depends on the company. There is a whole thread dedicated to 457 visas on this forum. It's a LONG thread but browsing it should give you some hint about others experiences and wait times. The Australian government has reduced the processing time to 4 weeks and the current budget has allocated money to add additional facilities to bring down the time to 2 weeks. Best of luck!!!

hi Angie

A degree is not required to prove you know the trade. Even if one plans/wants to migrate on basis of his skill he needs X number of years experience, all they ask fr is a report that talks about how you have learnt what from working for the number of years.

why I am telling you this, just so that you know when it is not a pre-requisite for migrating visa, do you think it will be a norm for work visa .

Dont worry, go with the flow, you are not too far from the sun

Errrr with the new points system they ARE going to give points for the degree separately from the points for experience...

point system is different, the debate here is whether it is possible to get in without a degree or not.

There is no debate it's only a matter of looking up the DIAC website. Although the lookup would be hindered by the fact that we don't know which visa her husband is going to apply for...
