Hi,

Congratulations on getting your IELTS - I understand the exams are quite long!

Have a look at timeline, it will give you a rough idea of how long it's taking others.

Generally, the first thing people get sorted are their Tax File Number, short term accommodation, mobile phone, medicare.

wow, eight is not bad. I am so stressed again now.
We have to, have to and have to have 7. anything above that is welcome

As Dolly mentioned, The TFN should be the first, a visit to centrelink I guess, I am not sure about this being a priority on student visa, opening the bank account or if you open the account from your current location and come, then you have to go and activate it,
Getting an accommodation, temporary or permanent, and of-course finding a part time job.
The rest, like, a boy friend, food from your region, grocery etc etc can wait.

You will need a TFN for when you start employment

I don't think it would hurt signing up with Medicare. It's free and would be a back up to what you've already got organised.

Well, the whole mobile phone situation is the most confusing thing I have ever come across. In the end we went with Vodafone on a PAYG (mainly because having 2 teenage sons it means we are in control of how much they spend per month!!!).

Yes, Australia has GSM networks. And 3G, too, if you want/need that.

Hi Rachel

It is very simple, they have reading, speaking, writing and hearing tasks.
The reading one would have a paragraph and relevant questions from the same, they will be slightly twisted, all you got to do it find the answers from the given paragraph.
The hearing task would have a conversation between two people, very very simple, and again the answers have to be given from that. The conversation can be heard just once.
The speaking is again simple, its for about 12-15 mins, they introduce themselves, you have to introduce yourself as well, then they ask you some general questions like what do you do or what course you did in college or your hobbies etc, then they give you a subject and you have to speak for about 2 mins. the subject can be something like tell us about your favorite teacher or some incident that you can not forget and the like. Then they would question you related to the subject like, if you talked on your favorite teacher, they would ask, did everyone in school like the same teacher etc etc. it again is to check you fluency in the language, the rhythm with which you speak, use of proper words, simple or complex sentences, punctuations etc.
In the writing module they would give you two tasks, one would be an essay writing on some general subject and the other would be a letter writing, say to the principal, you are a student who has lost his or her i-card and you have to request for re-issuing of the same.
If you have enrolled yourself for the test, they will provide with the study material and the material has everything.
By the way, I too am appearing for it on 21st August.

Wish you luck.

Anj
