Hi Dave,

It all depends on which visa you've applied for.

If you've applied for a 175 skilled independent I don't think there's any restrictions at all. Any of the 'sponsored' visas would have restrictions.

Should be OK then, its just that i read a serious article about the drought/climate of NSW in the next 10 years and i does not look too healthy considering the amount of food they grow for the nation in that area.
Dont mean to be a scare monger just being realistic.
Cheers

Really?? You're saying that with a skilled 175, one can basically move back/forth and work freely in either country? That's cool, if it is true? Because I'm having a tough time deciding on one or the other knowing that the cost is a good chunk of money in either case!

I work as a software developer freelance/independent, and i assume that this is the visa I would be shooting for, right?

Hi,

Unless the rules have changed, it is my understanding that Australian PR gives you NZ PR. The only draw back would be that if you wanted to eventually get Australian citizenship, the time spent out of Australia would not count towards getting citizenship. Also, it may have an effect longterm on your Australian PR.

To be on the safe side I'd check with a migration agent just to make sure.

If it is possible, the best route is usually the 175-Skilled Independent visa which automatically gives you PR.

Thanks Dolly!!

Even after scouring both immigration web sites it's still a lot of info to get my head around

to get one visa (to rule them all, ha) would be best way to approach NZ and Oz.

Now, I am planning on coming down under from jan-april. I've gathered that it's actually more expensive to try and get a visa sorted out when one is IN oz? Seems like it would be more efficient that way, to deal in person.

I would stay in Australia long enough to apply for citizenship, and then think about New Zealand.

It's hardly the EU , but an advantage of Australian (or New Zealand) citizenship is the freedom to live in either country indefinitely.

It is something I value as an Australian citizen, because whenever I get sick of Australia I can just jump on a plane and esape.

By the way, blame the complications on New Zealand. They almost became a state of Australia, and then decided they wanted to be different. (Still love them though!!)
