Cool Residency

Hi,

After spending 2 years in Australia on a 457 we have decided to go for residency, I am over 50 and will need employer sponsorship, which I have been reassured will be no issue for my employers (YAY).

So a couple of questions...anyone out there been down this particular route, was it difficult, easy, fraught with danger you know the drill??

Additionally I know I'm going to now need Aussie Fed police certs but I still have my UK ones handy but I may of seen or read somewhere that as they are over a year old I will need new ones, is that indeed the case...

All advice gratefully accepted....Cheers

You'll need to approach the age exemption carefully to be successful (recommend an experienced migration agent):

Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 121/856)

This part here is the tricky bit to me:
employer demonstrates that the position is so unusual or highly specialised that it was not possible to find, in Australia and overseas, a suitably qualified person who was younger than the applicant.

Fairly easy otherwise, the AFP check is easy (just a form from what I recall) and a one page letter back stating you have no police record (well at least hope very much you don't!).

I went through an 856 but didn't need any exemptions so fairly quick and easy.

I assume they're applying for an 856 on your behalf.

Thanks for that, yes I know I may have a difficult time ahead and we have discussed the fact that my position description will need to be tweaked, fortunately I work for a local authority as a civil engineering project manager and recently the civil and the landcaping project management sections have been amalgamated, it may not help but currently in this authority (I'm sure it may also occur elsewhere) I am the only member of staff to have both civil engineering and horticultural qualifications just hope that goes someway to satisfy DIAC..... Fingers crossed!!!
