Default Medical Conditions

Hi all hope your having a great day!

My wife and I are looking at migrating to Oz, we attended a expo show at the G mex last weekend and that sort of sold us on the idea.

One question that springs to mind is the mention of a medical, whilst my wife and I have no medical issues our 2 year old son does. Basically he has to take a tablet everyday to supplement a chemical that is not produced in enough qauntity by his thyriod gland.

Do you think this might cause us problems when applying?

cheers in advance

The chances are probably not, I'm no medical expert but what Australian immigration are looking for is people who are likely to require expensive medical care within five years of arrival in Australia. I think they put an arbitrary figure of $21000AUD as what is deemed expensive.

So depending on the long term prognosis of your son's condition and the cost of his medication they'll make a decision. (You'll probably end up having to pay for a report from a specialist for their opinion).

It might be worth phoning one of the panel doctors and asking for their opinion : United Kingdom – Panel Doctors

Dont know whether things have changed as far as medical conditions on immigration are concerned, We emigrated from UK in 1996 at time of immigration, both over 50 years of age and disabled, at time of immigration I was 85%disabled and my wife35% , I have heart problems and have been a self medicating diabetic since 1984, we applied for immigrant status in early 94 had all the tests and checks, were accepted in february 96 and emmigrated on the 26 of march, both found jobs and started work by the 5th of april, I cann not see you having any problems , just go for it!!
